Rangers are preparing for a massive summer rebuild after another frustrating season in the Scottish Premiership title race, with recruitment now viewed as one of the club’s biggest priorities.
Despite periods of encouraging form under Danny Röhl, Rangers once again fell short in the battle with Old Firm rivals Celtic.

There were positive moments during the season, especially after they clawed their way back into the three-way race for this year's crown, but inconsistency domestically ultimately proved costly as the title race slipped away.
That has increased the importance of the upcoming transfer window, with Rangers expected to target proven players who can upgrade the first-team squad immediately.

Rangers face Man City threat in race for Pierce Charles
Now, according to talkSPORT’s latest transfer notebook via journalist Alex Crook, Rangers are among the clubs competing to sign Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles.

Man City are also exploring bringing the 20-year-old back to the Etihad after previously releasing him from their academy system, and are ready to join the race for his signature.
Charles has emerged as one of the most highly rated young goalkeepers outside the Premier League over the past year.
The Northern Ireland international has impressed with both his shot-stopping and composure in possession, earning attention from clubs across Britain despite Sheffield Wednesday’s difficult season.
Born in Manchester, Charles originally spent time in City’s academy before joining Sheffield Wednesday in 2020. Since then, his development has accelerated quickly.
He has already gained senior international experience with Northern Ireland and is now widely viewed as one of the brightest young goalkeepers in the EFL.
Rangers’ interest is not entirely surprising.

The club have increasingly looked towards younger signings with resale potential, while Röhl is believed to want greater competition and depth across the squad ahead of next season.
Charles would fit that recruitment model perfectly given his age, experience level and long-term upside.
However, Rangers may face a difficult battle to complete a deal if City decide to move seriously for him.
Reports suggest City are considering a reunion because of uncertainty surrounding James Trafford’s future. The Premier League runners-up are rumoured to view Charles as a possible long-term option who already understands the club’s academy structure and style of play.
That creates a complicated decision for the player himself.

A return to City would offer prestige and elite-level facilities, but breaking into their first-team setup is notoriously difficult for young goalkeepers.
Rangers, by contrast, could potentially offer a clearer pathway towards regular senior football and European competition.
Charles also already has experience handling pressure environments.
Despite Wednesday’s struggles, he continued to earn praise for mature performances and calm distribution from the back. His reputation has steadily grown throughout the season, and interest from multiple clubs reflects that.
For Rangers, the pursuit of Charles is another sign that this summer may also involve long-term squad building rather than short-term fixes alone.
After falling short again in the title race, the club know they must improve in several areas if they are to close the gap on Celtic next season.
