Barcelona move on from Joao Pedro and discuss signing Chelsea transfer target instead

Chelsea have been strong in their stance that Joao Pedro is not for sale, and this has forced Barcelona to change their approach and target Anthony Gordon instead.

Barcelona director Deco has made it his mission to sign Pedro from Stamford Bridge just one year after he originally joined the club from Brighton.

Despite his desperation to do the deal, Chelsea are firm in their stance that Pedro is not for sale at any price this summer.

Barcelona move on from Joao Pedro to Anthony Gordon

The Blues are keen to keep him at the club in order to give Xabi Alonso the best possible chance of succeeding when he arrives at Stamford Bridge at the start of July.

It seems as if this news got to Deco, who travelled to England yesterday to speak about Pedro, but ended up actually discussing a move for Anthony Gordon.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Newcastle winger is keen on the switch to Spain, despite interest from Bayern Munich and clubs in the Premier League.

He said: “Barcelona are in direct club to club talks with Newcastle for Anthony Gordon. The player’s keen on the move but more clubs are also on it. This was the reason of Deco’s mission to the UK.

“Bayern and Premier League clubs are also keen.”

Barcelona won’t be the only top side interested in Pedro, however Chelsea are determined to keep him by any means necessary.

Chelsea also keen on Gordon

Chelsea are keen to add Premier League experience to their side this summer, and Gordon would certainly fit that bill.

The Blues have already spoken to Gordon about a potential switch, after holding interest in signing him since his time at Everton.

Chelsea have a strong relationship with the ownership of Newcastle, and this could see them also attempt ambitious moves for Lewis Hall and Bruno Guimaraes.

Signing a new winger has to be at the top of the club’s list of priorities this summer after the woeful first seasons for Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens in West London.
