Chelsea make decision on Thiago Silva returning to club as a coach

Former Chelsea defender Thiago Silva is set to become a coach when he decides to hang up his boots.

Silva, 41, is in the process of acquiring his UEFA A license, and unsurprisingly, Chelsea fans want to see him as part of the backroom staff.

It comes after a season where Chelsea’s defending was questioned constantly. From January to the end of the campaign, they kept just one clean sheet in the Premier League.

Who is to blame for our shambolic defence this season? 😡

Chelsea not considering Thiago Silva for coaching role

Unfortunately for Chelsea supporters hoping to see Silva on the Stamford Bridge bench next term, it does not look like the central defender will be returning to west London.

According to The Sun, Chelsea are not thinking about handing Silva a coaching role right now.

Xabi Alonso and his coaches will have to improve the Blues’ defence, while they could get help from a new centre-back.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently reported that Chelsea are going to sign another central defender this summer.

However, whoever they bring in will not be as good as Silva, who is one of the finest centre-halves of his generation.

Chelsea should bring Thiago Silva back as a player

Forget about bringing Silva back as a coach — which does not seem to be on the agenda anyway — Chelsea should be asking the Brazilian to return as a defender.

Who cares if Silva is in his 40s now? Chelsea still do not have a centre-half better than him. On the market, they are not going to find someone as solid and experienced as the former Porto man.

Silva is also a leader. Chelsea are lacking those in their dressing room right now. There is no way they are going to bring the Brazil international back to Stamford Bridge, though, at least not as a player.

And for the time being, it does not appear that they want Silva the coach either. In the future, let’s hope that changes.
