This one has been coming for some time now. According toTEAMtalk, Chelsea news journalist Simon Phillips reported that Marc Cucurella has been set on leaving Stamford Bridge since January. That is a long time to feel unsettled at a club. And honestly, it is not hard to see why.
The defender did not hide his frustration earlier this year. He felt discouraged by the club’s policy of signing young, unproven players over ready-made winners. For a player who wants to win trophies, that is a tough pill to swallow. He made 34 Premier League appearances for the Blues this season. So he was not exactly warming the bench. Yet he still felt the project was not heading in the right direction.

The left-back has two years left on his contract, according to Transfermarkt. The Stamford Bridge Club still holds real leverage here. But keeping a player who has mentally checked out rarely ends well. The Blues know that.
Enzo Maresca Making His Move for Marc Cucurella
Here is where it gets interesting. According to TEAMtalk, Enzo Maresca is set to take charge at Man City after Pep Guardiola’s exit. Maresca has already spoken to Cucurella about a potential move this summer. That is a bold step before he has even started the job at the Etihad.
Maresca knows him well from their time at Chelsea. That familiarity clearly matters. City also has a clearfootballing reason to push for this deal. They want a new left-back to compete with Rayan Ait-Nouri and Nico O’Reilly. The latter has found a new role in midfield this season under Pep Guardiola. Cucurella fits that gap well.
There is also an interesting bit of history here. Chelsea beat Man City to his signature in 2022. Todd Boehly paid Brighton £62m, as per Transfermarkt. City were not willing to match that fee at the time. Four years on, it looks like they may finally get their man.

He spent over a decade there before joining Newcastle. The Blues see him as a possible Cucurella replacement. But signing a first-choice full-back from a Premier League rival will not be easy.
According to CaughtOffside, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are also keen on the left-back. That gives the London club more options on where to sell him. They would rather not strengthen a direct rival. But Man City’s money and the Maresca link may be too strong to ignore.
For now, Chelsea transfer news on this deal points in one direction. Cucurella wants out. Alonso will not block a move, and Maresca is keen to be reunited. Unless something changes fast, this transfer looks more likely than not.
