Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has been an ever-present fixture for Everton this season, and naturally his Irish eligibility has raised the question over whether he might decide to line out for the Boys In Green instead of his native England.
With a lack of depth in the midfield, it's no surprise that the Irish fans have been giddy at the prospect of the former Leicester City man joining their ranks.
It's previously been reported that both Heimir Halgrimsson and his Toffees teammate Seamus Coleman have tried to convince him to switch sides, but to no avail.
Dewsbury-Hall's reasons for not switching were commendable. He said:
I told him where my head is at and that is that I see myself as English and the biggest dream of mine would be to play for England.
Having been left out of Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad last week, the 27-year-old was again subject to rumours that he was considering switching international allegiances.
However, he made it crystal clear on Wednesday that he won't be declaring for Ireland.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall says "England is Always the Dream"
On Saturday, Keith Jones tweeted on X that Dewsbury-Hall, who has never played international football at any level, had contacted Heimir Hallgrimsson to express his interest in pledging for the Boys In Green.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has informed @IrelandFootball manager Heimir Hallgrímsson of his desire to pledge his allegiance to Ireland after missing out on Englands World Cup squad. Expects to be in squad for September’s Nations League games once passport issues are sorted. Keith.

He added that we should expect to see him named in the squad for September's Nations League fixtures against Kosovo and Israel.

On Wednesday morning, Dewsbury-Hall responded strongly to these claims in a quote tweet, expressing his confusion and stating that they were "just not true".
?? Just not true. Massive respect to 🇮🇪 as I’ve previously stated, but I’m English & England is always the dream. https://t.co/UWv1nWNbAP

He added that he has "massive respect" for the Irish people, but reiterated his previous comments by stating "I'm English and England is always the dream"

In summary, we can probably safely say that the dream is officially over.
Dewsbury-Hall's first season at Everton has seen him play 32 times, scoring eight goals for the Toffees and grabbing six assists.
