Barcelona has entered talks with Newcastle United over a potential deal to land forward Anthony Gordon.
It was a disappointing season on Tyneside, which began with a disastrous transfer window that saw the Magpies spend heavily on profligate forwards Yoane Wissa, Nick Woltemade, and Anthony Elanga, Newcastle finished 12th in the Premier League, a year after they qualified for the Champions League for a second time under Eddie Howe.
As a result, Newcastle is looking to move on from Gordon to raise money for a summer rebuild, with Bayern Munich having been heavily linked to the England international. However, on Wednesday, news broke that Barcelona is in talks with Newcastle over a move for Gordon, who almost joined Liverpool back in the summer of 2024 amid the Magpies' PSR struggles.

With Robert Lewandowski having recently left Barcelona, the Catalans are in the market for a forward this summer. Their ability to spend in the transfer market in recent seasons has been severely limited by financial constraints.
However, it was recently reported that the Spanish side will operate this summer under La Liga's 1:1 rule, which allows clubs to spend 100% of the money they generate from sales.
Newcastle want $93 million (£69.3m) for Gordon, with Barcelona said to be keen on signing the 25-year-old, with the two sides now engaged in talks over a deal. With add-ons, that deal could reach $107 million (£80m).

Bayern Munich has held talks with Newcastle over Gordon. However, it has also been reported that there is a gap between their evaluation of the winger and Newcastle's evaluation.
The Daily Mail also reports Liverpool is interested in signing Gordon, with sources not ruling them out from making a move to sign the Newcastle winger.
Gordon is a lifelong Liverpool fan and was said to be desperate to make the switch to Merseyside in 2024 when Newcastle were struggling with PSR. In the end, they alleviated those issues by selling Yankuba Minteh to Brighton and Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest.

Any move for Gordon will likely impact the future of Marcus Rashford, too, who spent last season on loan at Barcelona from Manchester United.

The 28-year-old last played for Man United back in October 2025. He spent the second half of the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Aston Villa, before joining Barcelona on loan in the summer.
This season, he was part of a La Liga title-winning side under Hansi Flick, scoring 14 goals in 49 appearances. The Mail also reports that Barcelona is due to hold talks with Man United over extending Rashford's loan. They currently have a $35 million option to buy the England international, but would prefer to sign him on loan for another season.
It is also understood that Rashford's preference is to remain with Barcelona.
