Chelsea may already have the perfect answer to their sudden goalkeeping dilemma without spending a single penny in the transfer market.
Originally signed to inject competition into the goalkeeping department, Filip Jorgensen completely failed to establish himself as a reliable, consistent presence. This season was full of errors and erratic displays, with none bigger than his Champions League performance against Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg.
Growing increasingly discontent with his minutes and a distinct lack of first-team assurances, Jorgensen took matters into his own hands by demanding a transfer this summer, and Chelsea have obliged.
His looming departure completely simplifies the immediate setup, leaving Robert Sanchez as the undisputed number one.

Chelsea consider replacing Filip Jorgensen with Mike Penders
The BBC believes that Chelsea already have a replacement for Filip Jorgensen in the form of Mike Penders, who is set to return from his loan spell at Strasbourg.
Mike Penders is highly regarded at Stamford Bridge and is likely to be considered as Jorgensen’s replacement by Xabi Alonso during pre-season, having joined from Genk for £17m in 2025.
Before Jorgensen pushed for an exit there were already reports about Penders coming into the fold at Chelsea, so if anything, this has actually made it easier for Xabi Alonso.

The early signs are positive with Mike Penders
The early signs regarding Mike Penders are overwhelmingly positive, with the 20-year-old putting together an impressive campaign on loan at Strasbourg.
Standing at an imposing 6ft 7in, the modern, ball-playing goalkeeper completely conquered his development year, keeping 14 clean sheets across 53 total appearances.
Remarkably, Penders led all goalkeepers across Europe’s top five leagues by completing a staggering 1,794 accurate passes, while also being named the highest-rated player in the entire UEFA Conference League.
So it comes as no surprise that Chelsea wants to fast-track him.
