Barcelona believe that they are very close to signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in the coming days.
Cadena SER report that there is increasing confidence at the Camp Nou that Gordon will be signed sooner rather than later.
Barcelona confidence
The radio station reports that Barcelona are confident of securing a deal for Anthony Gordon in the coming days after his agent, William Salthouse, travelled to Barcelona today.
They explain that following a trip by Deco, Barca’s director of football, to London in the last few days to advance negotiations for the Newcastle star, Salthouse then travelled to Barcelona on Wednesday.
He made that trip with the aim of finalising the final details of the operation and accelerating the player’s signature.
Barcelona now have ‘almost total confidence’ in being able to close the deal soon. They are negotiating a deal worth €70m with Newcastle.
Profile fits
The 25-year-old is a profile that both the sports management at the club and manager Hansi Flick like very much. They both consider it a priority to reinforce the wings with players ‘capable of maintaining high rates of pressure and intensity’.
Barcelona have numerous reports on Anthony Gordon in this department. They’ve highlighted the Newcastle forward’s ability to ‘repeat high-intensity efforts’. That’s a key characteristic for any player in Flick’s system.
Barcelona also value that Gordon can play as both a winger and a striker. That further increases his tactical value to the squad.
Talks are now ‘very advanced’, and the Catalan giants are confident of being able to get the signing on course in the coming days.
They will want to move quickly to avoid potential competition from Bayern Munich.
Reports in Germany have made it clear that they are keen on Gordon too and have been for some time. But they’re hesitant to pay Newcastle’s asking price, something which doesn’t appear to be a deterrent for Barcelona.
