Real Madrid stance on Chelsea’s£120m Enzo Fernandez price tag

On Wednesday evening, it emerged that Chelsea would request a £120m fee for Enzo Fernandez is the club’s vice captain was to leave – and Real Madrid’s stance is unsurprising.

Madrid have long been linked with the 2022 World Cup winner after Fernandez flirted with the Spanish giants during the March break. With Chelsea missing out on Europe, Fernandez is keen to leave Chelsea.

Earlier on Wednesday, it was reported that Man City had cooled their interest in the Argentina midfielder despite Enzo Maresca being picked as Pep Guardiola’s replacement. The two have a close relationship.

Now, it is claimed Chelsea would request a £120m club-record sale to sell Fernandez, according to the Mail. But with Man City cooling their interest, where do Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid stand on a deal?

Real Madrid are unwilling to meet Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez fee

Interestingly, Chelsea have not disclosed a fee when quizzed about Joao Pedro’s future, following talks with Deco about the Brazil international. Chelsea deem Pedro untouchable and do not have a price tag.

But with Fernandez, Chelsea and BlueCo are willing to sell him if clubs can meet their £120m fee. As per The Mirror, however, Madrid are not willing to meet Chelsea’s price tag for the former Benfica star.

Chelsea paid £107m to sign him from Benfica in January 2023. Given his book value is in the region of £70m at the moment, a £120m fee would present huge profit on Fernandez if such an offer does surface.

Would Enzo Fernandez become Chelsea’s biggest-ever sale?

Only one player is reportedly said to have cost more when leaving Chelsea, in Eden Hazard. Real Madrid committed to an initial £88m fee for the Belgium international, with £42m more in potential add-ons.

However, Hazard’s spell at Real Madrid did not go to plan and the chances are that a large portion of those add-ons were not met. It makes a £120m sale of Fernandez likely to be the club’s biggest sale.

Chelsea’s third-biggest sale was Kai Havertz’s move to Arsenal, roughly in the region of £65m, a large drop off from the numbers linked to Hazard and Fernandez. He has a contract at Chelsea until 2032.
