‘Agreed’ – Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea target’s move is close

Chelsea have a lot of transfer targets going into this summer window. It might not be easy to sign most of them though. Yes, the presence of Xabi Alonso should help them. But it probably won’t always be enough to compensate for the lack of Champions League or European football at Stamford Bridge next season.

Also, when it comes to transfers, they often end up competing with the best teams across Europe. And it looks like they might set to lose out to Barcelona.

All the talk in recent days regarding Barcelona has been regarding Joao Pedro. But it looks like they might have been working on signing a different Premier League player altogether, right under their noses. Someone also wanted by Chelsea.

The player we are talking about is none other than Anthony Gordon of Newcastle United, who has emerged as one of the most wanted players in European football this summer. Fabrizio Romano said while speaking on his YouTube channel:

Anthony Gordon is I would say 95% a Barcelona player because the agreement between Anthony Gordon and Barcelona is done on personal terms. Anthony Gordon wants to go to Barcelona. I already say that in the last video, but now I mean every single detail of the contract has been sorted, has been agreed, and so Anthony Gordon is ready to say yes. Also, the deal is going to be fast.

Chelsea set to lose out on Anthony Gordon

Chelsea were one of the first clubs to be linked with Gordon this summer. In fact, there interest in him dates back to his days as an Everton player.

Back then, most Chelsea fans were unconvinced about Gordon’s quality. It would be safe to say that Gordon has proven himself as a top player over these past four seasons and is now set to join one of Europe’s top clubs.

Other than Chelsea and Barcelona, Bayern Munich have also been interested in Gordon. That just goes to show the level of clubs trying to sign him.

Most of this interest comes from Gordon scoring 10 goals in the Champions League in the 25/26 campaign. Let’s see what the future holds for him.

Who will be the Blues’ winger next season?

Chelsea are expected to be looking to sign a left-sided winger in this summer window. They signed two last year, spending close to a €100 million.

Alejandro Garnacho was brought in from Manchester United and has failed to meet expectations. He is already being linked with a move away from the club.

On the other hand, Jamie Gittens has spent a large portion of the season injured or on the bench. But even when he has played, he has looked raw. The winger might not be ready to play regularly for Chelsea.

So, the club will need to sign a winger this summer. Who will that be? We do not know. What we do know is that Gordon looks unlikely to end up at Chelsea.
