Exclusive: Arsenal step up Rogers chase
Arsenal have laid significant groundwork for a potential move for Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers, FootballTransfers understands.
Sporting director Andrea Berta is a huge admirer of the England star and has been looking into a deal for some time. However, there is a major discrepancy between Villa's asking price and Arsenal's valuation of the player.
It follows reports earlier this week that Arsenal were stepping up their interest in Rogers, with Mikel Arteta keen to make the 24-year-old a statement signing ahead of the new season.
Araujo offered new contract

Sporting CP are determined to offer Maxi Araujo a bumper new contract to convince him to snub a move to the Premier League, A Bola reports.
The Uruguay international is fielding interest from Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd, but Sporting want to keep Araujo for at least one more season. To achieve this, they are willing to make him one of the best-paid players at the club.
Araujo currently has an €80 million release clause, which means that Sporting are fairly well protected. The wide player can play as a left-back and as a winger, with Arsenal in the market for a left-sided forward.
Gordon set for Barca?
Barcelona are closing in on a deal to sign Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon, as per various reports.
The Blaugrana have made the England international a key target and are looking to wrap up his signing quickly, preferably before the week is out. Personal terms have already been agreed, and talks over an €80m financial package are in full swing.
Gordon is also a target for Arsenal, but they have yet to make a concrete move for him. Bayer Munich had agreed terms with the 25-year-old, but they baulked at Newcastle's asking price.

Vieira offered around
Fabio Vieira's agent is actively offering the Arsenal midfielder to Bundesliga clubs, BILD reports.
The Portugal international is coming off an impressive season at Hamburger SV, who are trying to agree a permanent deal with the Gunners. However, they can't exercise their €20m-€22m purchase option, and Arsenal are not offering any discounts.
As a result, a move back to Hamburg looks unlikely, and Vieira could instead sign for a different Bundesliga club. Talks with Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart, who already wanted him last year, have taken place.
Trossard not a long-term option
Former England star Chris Waddle believes that Arsenal should look to sign a long-term upgrade on Leandro Trossard this summer.
The Belgian is one of the players who could depart the North London club for the right offer, with his exit potentially freeing up a spot to sign a marquee left-winger.
"I think they need to be looking at another winger on the left-hand side because Leandro Trossard isn’t really a winger. He’s been converted into one. Trossard has done well. I’m not saying he hasn’t. He’s a dangerous player but I don’t think he’s a good enough winger," Waddle said.
