From Spain: Manchester City make contact for Tottenham player – De Zerbi has already made feelings clear

Tottenham’s attempts to keep Pedro Porro have now run into serious interest from Manchester City, who are said to be moving early for the Spain international.

The 26-year-old has just come through a difficult season in north London. Spurs survived in the Premier League on the final day, after a campaign marked by injuries, managerial changes and wider uncertainty at the club.

Yet Porro remained one of their most reliable players. That has made his future more important for Tottenham, especially now Roberto De Zerbi is trying to reshape the project.

According to AS, Manchester City have already started contacts over a possible move. Both the player and Tottenham are said to be aware of their interest.

The Spanish newspaper adds that Spurs have tried to extend Porro’s contract beyond 2028. So far, they have not managed to convince him.

Manchester City move before the World Cup

Manchester City had recurring issues at right-back, with injuries, tactical changes and different solutions used in that area.

Porro would offer a proven Premier League option, and City already know him well. He previously belonged to the club, although he never made a competitive appearance for them.

Instead, he made his name at Sporting, where he worked with Hugo Viana. That connection now matters, as Viana is City’s director of football and knows the defender’s development closely.

AS say City have started moving even before the World Cup. The suggestion is they want to advance before the tournament can increase Porro’s profile and make the operation even harder.

Tottenham have set a starting price of £50m (€57m). That is the figure any interested club would have to work from this summer.

De Zerbi wants him to stay

Pedro Porro is also central to Tottenham’s own plans. AS report that De Zerbi has already told the player directly that he wants to continue working with him.

That is important because Spurs are again facing a major reset. He even rejected approaches in recent months to focus on helping Tottenham in their relegation battle.

So Porro’s standing has still grown. AS point to claims in the English media after Thomas Frank’s exit that the Spaniard was viewed internally as the squad’s only genuine elite-level player.

He also showed his flexibility during the season. Under Igor Tudor, he even played as a third centre-back. Against Atlético Madrid in the Champions League, he produced a goal and an assist in a 4-2 win.

Now City are pressing, Tottenham are resisting, and De Zerbi wants him for the rebuild. That leaves Porro in the middle of a transfer story which could grow quickly once the market opens.
