Liverpool have been named as the likeliest Premier League club to sign Kylian Mbappe if he were to leave after a season of unrest at Real Madrid.
French journalist Julian Laurens has tipped Liverpool to sign Mbappe, suggesting that the idea of Mbappe leaving the Spanish capital is not inconceivable.
Though the €1.3m per week wages he earns at Madrid certainly are…
“I think Real Madrid was always the dream and he’s got a long-term contract,” he told Hawksbee and Jacobs on talkSPORT.
“He’s 27 going on 28. He will be 28 in December. I think I can see him staying there for a long time but then I don’t think it’s impossible to see him [leave] at some point.
“We know that Liverpool is the club that his mum loves. They were the team and the club that they watched the most and they were really loving.
“It’s funny because all those of English teams tried to sign him when he was 12, 14, 15, 17. Some went all the way to Nice and parked the private jet at the airport just waiting in case he was not staying in Monaco and decided to leave.
“They were all there ready to make him an offer. So, maybe one day, I think he would be great in the Premier League.
“I think he’s got the game for it and he watches it all.”
Liverpool don’t really have room for Mbappe…
Even if you ignore reports about Mbappe’s ego and rifts he caused at PSG and now Madrid, there isn’t really room for another top class striker at Anfield after last summer’s transfers.
Liverpool spent £125m to sign Alexander Isak, although they are yet to see any kind of return on that investment, while Mbappe’s compatriot, Hugo Ekitike, cost the Reds around £79m.
What they desperately need this summer is world class wingers to replace Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz. The Colombian left the Reds last summer but wasn’t replaced, leaving a huge hole in the squad.
Mbappe has 48 goals and 9 assists for club and country this season and there is no denying he’s one of the very best players in world football, but his future likely doesn’t lie at Liverpool in reality.
