Anthony Gordon knows first-hand the levels he must reach to succeed at Barcelona after praising Marcus Rashford's impact in Spain. The Newcastle winger is set to join the La Liga champions in a £69.3million plus add-ons deal.

Gordon, 25, is scheduled to undergo a medical after a day of negotiations between the two clubs. The England international came up against Barca earlier this season in the Champions League when the Magpies fell to a 2-1 Champions League defeat at St James' Park.

The winger's stoppage-time consolation goal wasn't enough to earn a result with the Spanish side earning the three points thanks to Rashford's nine-minute brace in the second half. Gordon was no doubt disappointed with the result but admitted Rashford's game-changing moments are what's required to win at the highest level.

Speaking after the September game, he told TNT Sports: "It’s a top level. Rashford scored two goals out of nowhere. It’s got to be the same for us and take the opportunities when they’re presented to us."

Gordon was wholly complimentary of Barca's quality as he branded their midfield of Pedri and Frenkie de Jong as the best pairing he's played against in regards to controlling the tempo of a game.

Discussing his potential future team-mates, the England star added: "Pedri and de Jong were fantastic. They made it really difficult for us to do our usual press, and they controlled the game.

"They were the best I've played against in that sense of the game. To be honest, we are not used playing against players who can keep the ball in this way. We played against top teams like City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, but the way they passed the ball in midfield made it very hard for us to press."

A move to Spain is expected to double Gordon's wage to around £300,000 per week as Barca look to strengthen their squad after winning the league for a second consecutive year.

However, his arrival places doubt on whether Rashford will ultimately continue his career in Catalonia as he's currently set to return to Manchester United upon the end of his season-long loan. Barca do have the option of signing the 28-year-old for £26m, but have attempted to negotiate the feedown.

Rashford has made no qualms about his desire to stay in Spain for the long haul but hinted that remaining with Barca was not a foregone conclusion. Speaking after winning the league, he said: "This is the perfect way I want it to end.

"I’m very happy, I just want to enjoy today. I live in the moment. At the end of the season we will see. I came here to win and we do this so I’m very happy. It’s an incredible feeling. Over the season we deserved it, we were the best team. We had some bad moments but we always come back and fight to improve."
