Everton will face Newcastle United in a friendly this summer.
The Premier League rivals will meet at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh in August as part of preparations for the new season.
The game, a 5.15pm kick-off on Wednesday, August 12, is the first of the Blues’ pre-season fixtures to be officially confirmed. The ECHO reported the clubs were in talks over a meeting in the Scottish capital earlier this month and details for the game have now been signed off.
With a capacity of 67,130, it will be Everton’s first game at Scotland’s biggest sports venue - one synonymous with Scottish rugby. It will also be the first summer friendly between Everton and Newcastle since the Barcelona Cup final of 1924. Everton won that game, held at Barcelona’s Camp de Les Corts, their ground before Camp Nou.
Looking ahead to the fixture, which will be held just over a fortnight before the start of the new season, David Moyes said: “Facing Newcastle United at Murrayfield gives us a valuable opportunity to test ourselves against Premier League opposition as part of our preparations for the new season.
“Pre-season is an important period for the players and staff, and a fixture like this, in one of the most iconic stadiums in the country, will help us continue building towards the start of the campaign.
“Everton has always had a strong connection with Scotland and we know how well our supporters travel, not just from Merseyside but from across the country.
“Edinburgh is a fantastic city and this fixture gives Evertonians the chance to come together, enjoy the occasion and get behind the team in what should be a really good day for everyone connected with the club.”
Pre-sale tickets will be available to Everton Season Ticket+ members, Season Ticket, Premium and Forever Blue Plus members from 4pm on May 28, before going on general sale on June 2
