The£35m Chelsea player who didn’t play a single minute under Calum McFarlane

Chelsea’s Premier League form didn’t really pick up following Calum McFarlane returning to the role of temporary manager, and there was one player who didn’t even get a chance to feature.

McFarlane was brought in after a nightmare run of form under Liam Rosenior, where the Blues lost six games in a row in all competitions without scoring.

Under the interim coach, they did make the FA Cup final before defeat to Manchester City, and beat Tottenham at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.

However, defeats to Nottingham Forest and Sunderland saw them miss out on European football next season, opening up the opportunity for a mass clearout in West London.

One player who is surely on the chopping block is Benoit Badiashile, who didn’t play a single minute during McFarlane’s time in charge of the club to end the season.

The Frenchman wasn’t even in the matchday squad, with the Englishman preferring the likes of Josh Acheampong and Jorrel Hato to be options off the bench.

After joining for £35m from Monaco, injuries have played an impact on his ability to feature, although he was believed to be fit during this period of time.

Xabi Alonso will have no recent evidence of Badiashile playing for Chelsea, likely making his mind up for whether he will use him next season.

Badiashile expected to depart Chelsea this summer

There are expected to be plenty of outgoings at Stamford Bridge this summer, with centre-back one of the areas where a clearout will occur.

Chelsea were linked with a swap deal for Strahinja Pavlovic involving Badiashile, with them looking to give appropriate backing to Alonso when he arrives at the club.

The Spaniard wants two new defenders brought in this summer in order to open up the chance of using his previously preferred back three formation.

Badiashile will ultimately go down as one of the poor signings of the BlueCo era.
