The Chelsea midfield could undergo a transformation under Xabi Alonso. Valentin Barco is expected to arrive this summer. And it has been suggested that another midfielder might be signed as the Blues look to strengthen the spine of the team. On the other hand, Enzo Fernandez continues to be linked with a move away.
Now, those Fernandez rumours have grown a bit weaker. Man City appear to be giving priority to Elliot Anderson. Real Madrid are not willing to meet Chelsea’s asking price. And PSG have played down the level of interest they have in the Argentine World Cup winner.
That does not change the fact that Fernandez is interested in leaving. And it might not stop Chelsea from seeking another option in midfield, especially with the likes of Romeo Lavia and Andrey Santos also being linked with potential exits.
One player they seemingly have on their radar is Alex Scott of Bournemouth. But their chances of signing might have gone down after the latest update from Fabrizio Romano.
Fabrizio Romano confirms bad news for Chelsea in Alex Scott race
According to Romano, Bournemouth have already offered a new deal to Scott. They want the midfielder to stay.
Scott’s current deal at Bournemouth runs until the summer of 2028. So, if they cannot agreed a new contract with him soon, the Cherries might consider parting ways soon, rather than seeing his transfer valuation decrease.
We know that Bournemouth are a team that is open to letting its best players go for the right price. And they also deserve a ton of credit for their recruitment, always finding a proper replacement for them.
It remains to be seen if that will continue to be the case even after Andoni Iraola has left. Will Scott follow his manager out of the exit door this summer? And more importantly, could Chelsea be his next destination?
Will Scott leave Bournemouth this summer?
Now, when Chelsea fans have asked for experienced, Premier League-proven names, Scott is not someone who would have been atop their wish list. In many ways, it feels like the same old BlueCo model, just in a different package.
It remains to be seen what Alonso thinks about the club’s transfer plans. We will learn a lot over the course of this summer window. It might be the most important in the club’s history.
Chelsea will know that things cannot continue on this path. And lately, they have shown signs that they are willing to change. Let’s see if that is substantial, which it needs to be, or just on the surface level.
