Chelsea believe Xabi Alonso could help keep Enzo Fernandez at the club, but Real Madrid’s interest is still creating pressure before the new season begins.
Chelsea want Fernandez to stay
As per Football London, Enzo Fernandez is still happy at Stamford Bridge despite strong transfer links with Real Madrid. The Argentine midfielder joined Chelsea from Benfica in January 2023. The club paid a huge fee €123 million according to transfermarkt. Because they saw him as a leader for the future. Since arriving in England, Fernandez has become one of Chelsea’s most trusted players. The Blues ended last season in better form after a difficult start. Injuries and poor results hurt the team earlier in the campaign, but the squad improved in the final months.
Fernandez played a big role in that improvement. He controlled games from midfield and helped the Blues keep possession under pressure. His passing also helped the team create more chances in attack.

However he said,“This is football; we’re going to make a good team.”

As per the Sun, Xabi Alonso’s arrival could help convince Fernandez to stay. The club believes the midfielder would enjoy working with a coach who understands his role so well. Alonso was one of the best midfielders of his generation. He was known for calm passing, strong positioning, and smart decision-making. Fernandez plays in a similar style, so Chelsea hope that connection could matter.
Fernandez showed some of his best form near the end of last season. He looked more comfortable in a deeper role where he could control the tempo of matches. The midfielder also built better partnerships with younger players around him. Chelsea staff saw clear progress in the team during that period. That gave the club hope for next season.

When the Blues are hoping Xabi Alonso can bring unity in the squad. But Xabi’s statement does not clearly reveals if he definitely wants Enzo. Chelsea cannot afford to lose Enzo Fernandez, but can Enzo cope with Xabi? As per Mirror, Xabi was sacked from Real Madrid. It will be very important to see what will be his relationship with Fernandez who admired Real Madrid previously.
