Anthony Gordon admits learning Spanish as Newcastle United x Barcelona transfer imminent

Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon is on the brink of a sensational summer swoop to Barcelona.

Anthony Gordon has already admitted to learning Spanish ahead of his proposed move to Barcelona.

Newcastle United have agreed a deal in excess of £70million for the England international. Toon chiefs desperately wanted to seek an early departure to avoid a repeat of the Alexander Isak saga.

Bayern Munich appeared in the driving seat just days ago - with Gordon’s representatives talking to both clubs. However, the Spanish giants have won the race and he will become a Barca player in the coming days.

Anthony Gordon learning Spanish?

In an interview discussing his personal life 12 months ago, Gordon opened up about watching a Spanish TV show as he aimed to learn the language. Residents in Barcelona are bilingual, with Catalan the other official native tongue.

“Elite, it’s a Spanish series,” Gordon said. “I've been trying to learn Spanish. It (if he could learn a life skill) would either be to speak fluently in Spanish, or play a musical instrument. Maybe the guitar.”

Barca president confirms Anthony Gordon transfer

Speaking to local media, Laporta confirmed that Gordon is heading to the Camp Nou in a brief update last night. He said: “The Gordon deal is being done but it is not completed yet. I have already been informed about everything.”

David Hopkinson always open to sale

In March, Newcastle CEO David Hopkinson publicly vowed there will never be another “Isak-like scenario” on Tyneside. He told reporters: “We think through what players might or might not want to do this summer.

“But if an Isak-like scenario presents itself again, any player under contract is going to leave on our terms and we’re going to maximise the opportunity that might represent for the club. Going forward, our strategy is to buy well and sell well.”

While accepting the Magpies must “sell well”, Hopkinson refused to be drawn on specific names. At the time, speculation surrounding Sandro Tonali was more prevalent than Gordon.

“We are not ready to answer that,” Hopkinson responded when asked which players will leave. “We have got to see what set-up we are in and what opportunities present themselves in the marketplace. What I will say is that we intend to be disciplined, active, thoughtful and as proactive as we possibly can.”
