Enzo Fernandez’s potential departure means Chelsea could need a new vice-captain next season, and Levi Colwill is the ideal candidate to succeed the Argentine.
Fernandez has captained Chelsea in Reece James’ absence, but he could join Real Madrid or another club this summer.

As of now, it is thought that Real Madrid are unwilling to meet Fernandez’s asking price. However, it is being widely reported that the midfielder is keen to leave Stamford Bridge, so the Blues could be forced to lower their demands.
It would be a blow to lose a player with Fernandez’s ability and character. But there is no doubt that Colwill can step up and become Chelsea’s stand-in captain when needed.
Right now, the defender is already doing all the right things. For example, according to The Sun, he spent a lot of time encouraging and helping the club’s academy players while out injured.

Colwill is only 23, but he already acts maturely and comes across as a leader. He knows Chelsea inside out as well, having once been an academy player himself.
His former manager Enzo Maresca was also very impressed with his leadership skills.
Enzo Maresca tipped Levi Colwill to become a future Chelsea captain
As Maresca discussed Colwill in one interview last year, he said: Levi, even if he is not wearing the armband, he is one of the captains and in the future, he could be a captain of this club. Since we started, he is improving a lot.”
Other than Colwill, no one else really springs to mind as a replacement for Fernandez in the vice-captain role.
Moises Caicedo has worn the armband this season, but he is not the most vocal. Perhaps one of Chelsea’s new signings could handle the responsibility.
Chelsea are going to target players with more experience this summer. Someone arriving who is in their late 20s could suit the role, but Colwill should also be in contention for it regardless.
As for Fernandez, everything is now pointing towards him leaving the Club World Cup holders. Someone just needs to pay up.
