Negotiations with Liverpool expected in July – ‘Great gulf’ prompting rethink

Inter Milan are back in the picture to sign Liverpool‘s Curtis Jones and developments are emerging about the deal.

Earlier this week, SportWitness covered how Cristian Chivu remains a big fan of the midfielder. Inter had tried to sign him in January but the Reds didn’t allow the player to leave, despite him rejecting a new deal.

There was confidence that talks between Inter and Liverpool are back on. Jones is keen on the transfer but Gianluca Di Marzio claimed on Wednesday that there is a gap between the clubs over a deal.

Further developments have emerged and the Nerazzurri are ready to take their time.

Reds’ demands higher than expected

TuttoSport today report Liverpool and Inter did speak about Jones yesterday. This was because Piero Ausilio and Richard Hughes were at a major event involving super-agent Federico Pastorello.

Inter had been lying in wait to know about the Reds’ valuation, which stands at €40m right now. This is more than what Di Marzio’s claim of €30m and this demand has now postponed further talks until July.

There is a ‘great gulf’ between the two parties, which is forcing Inter to reconsider. The Nerazzurri feel this stance will make Liverpool reconsider their demands, as Jones’ current deal runs out in 2027.

Arne Slot’s side wouldn’t want to lose the player for free, with the Englishman still refusing to sign a renewal.

In the meantime, Inter will also pursue a move for Manu Kone in June. If no major progress is made, they will definitely return for Jones during the next window.

Sensible strategy from Inter

It feels like Nerazzurri have laid down decent groundwork for the move. They have also convinced the player to keep pushing for the move, which will be key.

However, interest from other English clubs can threaten this approach. Jones’ profile will be valuable to many and Premier League teams can pay the right amount.

That is why Inter may need to make sales before coming back in for Jones. Davide Frattesi can depart and his exit can indirectly prove massive for the England international’s future.
