The 2025/26 season has come to a close and Liverpool are already being linked with transfer activity ahead of the summer window.
The Reds secured Champions League qualification after a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth on the final day, and attention has quickly turned to squad reinforcements ahead of next season.

Arne Slot is expected to reshape his attack, with Mohamed Salah’s long-term future uncertain and several forwards linked with a possible move to Anfield.
Yan Diomande, Bradley Barcola and Anthony Gordon have all been mentioned as potential options, although Gordon is reportedly closing in on a move to La Liga champions Barcelona.
In midfield, Liverpool are also being linked with Porto’s Alan Varela, alongside Manchester United. The 24-year-old played a key role in Porto’s title-winning campaign.
He joined Porto from Boca Juniors in 2023. Varela is contracted until 2030, meaning Porto are under no pressure to sell, and any deal would likely require a significant fee.
The Argentina international has downplayed transfer speculation following an impressive season. In an interview with La Nación, Varela said: “I’m calm and 100% focused here at Porto. My representative deals with all those topics.
“Right now I’m not thinking about that. “My objective is to be in the World Cup squad. Honestly, I’m not thinking about transfers at the moment.”
Liverpool would likely need to pay a substantial fee for any move. Varela made 45 appearances and scored two goals for Porto in all competitions.
Liverpool’s midfield was central to Arne Slot’s Premier League-winning side in 2024/25, but this season has brought added scrutiny. Dominik Szoboszlai has stood out, while Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister have struggled to consistently match last season’s levels.
Mac Allister’s long-term future has also come under question. Contract talks have not taken place, fuelling speculation over a possible summer departure.
Curtis Jones has also been linked with a move away, adding to the uncertainty. Varela is a defensive midfielder, a role often filled by Gravenberch.
His arrival could allow Gravenberch to play further forward, where his attacking instincts have delivered six goals this season.
