Alonso Sanctions Move For £100M Rated Forward Who Arsenal Also Want

Chelsea’s pursuit of Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers has been approved by manager Xabi Alonso, according to reports.

TEAMtalk claim that the England international has been on the club’s radar for quite some time, with Co-Director of Recruitment and Talent Joe Shields having been the driving force behind the pursuit.

However, it is now believed that Alonso is “happy” for the Blues to make a concerted effort to sign Rogers this summer.

The Spaniard has been given more control than previous managers over transfer decisions, and it seems he would be interested in working with the Villa playmaker.

There is a lot of competition for Rogers

Despite the 23-year-old signing a new contract back in November, it hasn’t deterred teams from showing interest in the player.

Arsenal are pushing hard to secure Rogers’ signature, with manager Mikel Arteta seeing him as a solution for his team’s issues on the left flank.

Manchester United and Bayern Munich are also said to be keen on the attacking midfielder, but nothing suggests they are willing to match Villa’s sizeable asking price at the moment.

How much would Chelsea need to pay?

Initial reports have listed Rogers’ asking price at around £80m, but TEAMtalk believe that Villa value him at a much higher amount. They want a club record fee, which currently stands at £100m – the figure that Manchester City paid for Jack Grealish in 2021.

Without the sale of an important player, you can’t see the Blues matching their valuation. Enzo Fernandez is pressing to leave Stamford Bridge, with Real Madrid and City among his suitors.

A fee of around £120m would reportedly be accepted for the Argentinian international, and if such an offer were received, the bulk of the proceeds could potentially be reinvested in recruiting Rogers as his replacement.
