Jason Cundy shares his dream Enzo Fernandez replacement for Chelsea

Like most Chelsea fans, Jason Cundy has been discussing the potential exit of Enzo Fernandez this summer.

Fernandez is wanted by Real Madrid and is thought to be desperate to leave Stamford Bridge when the transfer window opens.

Levi Colwill could easily succeed Fernandez as vice-captain, but someone will also need to replace the 25-year-old in the middle of the park if he does depart.

Who would you like to see replace Enzo Fernandez if he leaves Chelsea this summer?

Jason Cundy wants to see Bruno Guimaraes replace Enzo Fernandez at Chelsea

It has been claimed that Chelsea are interested in signing Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United, and it is a transfer that Cundy would be on board with.

When Guimaraes’ name was suggested on talkSPORT, Cundy replied: “They [Newcastle] will, by all accounts, have to sell financially. I’m on board with that — that’s double thumbs up, that.”

Newcastle may be under less pressure to sell Guimaraes now after Barcelona agreed a fee with them for Anthony Gordon.

Gordon was also a target for Chelsea, but a move to Stamford Bridge always looked unlikely amid interest from Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

As well as that, the Blues will not be in the Champions League or any European competition next season.

How Bruno Guimaraes and Enzo Fernandez compare

Guimaraes could be a very suitable replacement for Fernandez, and the numbers suggest that.

For example, they scored almost the same number of goals in the Premier League this term. Guimaraes scored nine goals, while Fernandez managed one more. Their assists totals were also very similar.

Defensively, Guimaraes is probably a bit stronger than his South American rival, though he has played a lot deeper than him.

With that being said, Fernandez is still a central midfielder and has played a lot of games as one at Chelsea, so Guimaraes is still a logical name to consider.

Whether the Blues can convince Newcastle to sell him remains to be seen. Again, Gordon’s sale complicates things, and there is no guarantee that Fernandez leaves.

There is a lot of noise surrounding the Argentine, but no one has tabled a bid for him yet.
