While Liverpool fans were relieved to see the back of the disappointing 2025/26 season, the summer now brings fresh concerns for Liverpool.
Supporters are demanding new signings, but the main issue remains contract uncertainty. Ibrahima Konate’s deal is now approaching its final month, making him the biggest worry as the situation drags on without resolution.

Konate is yet to sign a new contract with Liverpool. Despite claiming last month that he was “close to an agreement,” there has been growing uncertainty in the media over his future.
Speaking after Liverpool’s Merseyside derby win, the 27-year-old said: “There are many things people have said but for a long time we have spoken with the club and we are close to an agreement.
“I think everyone wished for that for as soon as possible but we are in a good way.” He added: “For sure, there is a big chance that I’m here next season. This is what I’ve always wanted.
“I’m waiting to sort the contract but when everything is sorted you will have to ask Richard what I said to him in September, November before everyone talked about everything and he’s going to say something to make everyone quiet. When he’s going to reply, you will see. I just wish that.”
According to transfer expert Ben Jacobs, Konate is expected to leave Liverpool this summer, with no agreement yet reached over a new deal.
Jacobs posted on X: “Ibrahima Konate is expected to leave Liverpool. No agreement has been reached between #LFC and the French defender despite Konate indicating in April an agreement was close.”
Despite a mixed season for Konate, there is no shortage of suitors for the Liverpool defender. The France defender, in the prime of his career, is set to become available on a free transfer as his contract expires this summer.
He moved to Anfield from RB Leipzig for £35million in the summer of 2021. Konate has made 183 appearances for Liverpool since joining the Reds, helping them win the Premier League in 2024/25, as well as the FA Cup and EFL Cup in 2022.
This season, the Frenchman made 51 appearances and scored twice as Liverpool secured Champions League qualification on the final day of the campaign.
Liverpool have already completed the signing of fellow Frenchman Jeremy Jacquet, who could be his replacement next season.
