Sky Sports journalist has now dropped big"behind the scenes"update on Liverpool target

**As Liverpool continue to be linked with a big-money move for RB Leipzig star, Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg has provided a new update.**

Diomande is arguably the player who has been linked with the Reds more than anyone in recent months, with the Ivorian seen as the No.1 option to replace Mohamed Salah.

The 19-year-old is considered one of Europe’s best young attacking players, possessing a lethal combination of blistering pace, end product and incredible long-term potential.

Liverpool will face stiff competition for Diomande, and taking to [_X_](https://x.com/Plettigoal/status/2060062084923371563?s=20), Plettenberg claimed that the Reds are still pushing hard to strike a deal:

_“Behind the scenes, Liverpool are pushing for a quick agreement with Yan Diomande. 19 y/o gem remains one of their top targets. Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are closely monitoring the situation and have already held talks. There is still no agreement with any club. RB Leipzig still want to extend his contract and improve his salary.”_

As things stand, Liverpool do feel like they are in pole position to snap up Diomande in the summer transfer window, but that’s not to say that someone else won’t swoop in instead, such as Paris Saint-Germain or Manchester City.

If the Reds do get a deal over the line, it will feel like a significant piece of business, with the Leipzig ace described as “the most gifted player within our system since Erling Haaland” by [someone at the club](https://www.flashscore.co.uk/news/football-bundesliga-most-gifted-player-since-haaland-major-clubs-circle-for-leipzig-s-diomande/v3wgKC7U/).

Liverpool cannot afford to stop at Diomande when it comes to signing wingers this summer, however, with a left-sided attacker also badly needed, given Cody Gakpo’s hugely disappointing form and the fact that Rio Ngumoha needs time to fully develop.

Three wingers could arguably be the ideal scenario for the Reds, but if not, both new wide men need to have the versatility to shine on either side, which is something Diomande can do.

Anthony Gordon is off to Barcelona, so that deal is out of the question, so PSG star Bradley Barcola could be the next-best option, if not a stronger one than the Englishman anyway.
