Barcelona’s pursuit of Julian Alvarez appears to be gathering serious momentum, with the Argentine forward making it clear that he wants to play for the Catalan giants.
The Atletico Madrid star has emerged as one of Barcelona’s leading transfer targets.
While several names have been linked with a move to the Spotify Camp Nou in recent months, Alvarez is understood to be at the very top of the club’s shortlist.
Recent developments suggest that Barcelona have already taken important steps.
Notably, sporting director Deco held talks with Fernando Hidalgo, the player’s representative, as the club looks to establish the foundations for a potential summer transfer.

The meeting appears to have provided Barcelona with exactly the encouragement they were hoping for.
According to the report, Alvarez has already communicated his desire to join Barcelona and has informed Atletico Madrid of his intentions.

As a result, Barcelona are now preparing an opening proposal which is expected to be worth around €100 million.
The Catalan club know that reaching an agreement will not be straightforward, especially with Atletico believed to value the Argentine considerably higher.
Reports suggest Diego Simeone’s side could demand close to €150 million before even considering a sale.

Meanwhile, the most important outcome from the discussions was not necessarily the financial aspect but the player’s position.
According to SPORT, Barcelona have received assurances that Alvarez is crazy about the idea of wearing the Blaugrana shirt, which could prove crucial as negotiations enter a lengthy and difficult phase.

Accoridng to the outlet, the forward is said to believe his qualities would be showcased more effectively in Barcelona’s attacking system.
While he certainly enjoys a positive relationship with Diego Simeone, there is a feeling that a more attack-minded team would allow him to express himself more consistently in the final third.
That belief has strengthened Barcelona’s confidence as they prepare to test Atletico Madrid’s resolve with their first official proposal.
