Tottenham beat Liverpool to Marco Senesi signing in major summer coup

Marcos Senesi has agreed to join Tottenham Hotspur, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

He is set to join Spurs as a free agent on a four-year deal. He will become their second signing this summer, after they had earlier agreed a deal for Andy Robertson.

Senesi enjoyed a brilliant campaign with Bournemouth, helping the south coast side finish sixth in the Premier League, qualifying for the UEFA Europa League.

However, the 29-year-old was omitted from Argentina’s squad for this summer’s World Cup.

He was linked with Liverpool, but had earlier agreed to join Tottenham, provided they retain their top flight status.

Senesi’s arrival at Spurs could lead to Cristian Romero’s exit

Senesi’s arrival represents a big coup for Tottenham, having beaten Liverpool to his signature.

He is good with the ball at his feet, ranking highest for accurate passes and long balls per game in the league. He also registered the most assists.

Senesi also ranks first for interceptions and clearances per game, underlining his ability to read the game.

His capture might pave the way for Cristian Romero’s departure from the north London side.

Romero has been linked with an exit from the club. He is said to be high on Barcelona’s wishlist and is on Atletico Madrid’s radar.

The 28-year-old struggled with his performances this season. He picked up three red cards, the joint-highest in the division.

Romero’s place in the starting line-up is also under threat by Senesi’s arrival, potentially encouraging him to leave Spurs.
