HSV Hamburg wasn’t to buy Fabio Vieira from Arsenal this summer ‘for a fraction’ of the €22m they agreed with the Gunners last summer.
Rheinische Post Opladen report on the 25-year-old today. The newspaper explains that the German side’s hopes of keeping the midfielder are currently slim.
€22m purchase option
Fabio Vieira has spent the season on loan with Hamburg from Arsenal, having fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates.
He’s enjoyed himself with the Bundesliga side, with seven goals and five assists in 29 games in the Bundesliga this season. That’s also seen him play in 77% of the available minutes as well.
Both they and the midfielder would like to continue their relationship, but that won’t be easy to get over the line.
The loan deal includes a €22m option for them to sign Vieira on a permanent basis. But it’s already clear that HSV will not pay that figure.
Arsenal negotiations
Further negotiations with Arsenal will be required. They are hoping that the Gunners will sanction a deal ‘for a fraction’ of the €22m already agreed. Whether that is plausible, remains to be seen.
On the face of it, it seems unlikely for now. A report from BILD on Thursday explained that Fabio Vieira’s agents have already been offering him around this summer.
That report explained that the agents, and Arsenal, are hoping that a better offer will arrive for the midfielder in the coming weeks and months.
His agency, Gestifute, have already offered him to the likes of Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart. They’re both competing in Europe next season.
They can offer more money than Hamburg, further complicating matters for them. At this point, their hopes of keeping Vieira beyond the end of the season seem slim at best. But the long negotiations drag on, the more they may increase.
