Three Anthony Gordon clauses made public ahead of Barcelona transfer

Anthony Gordon will be revealed as a Barcelona player at some point over the weekend following his exit from Newcastle United.

The England winger has been in Spain since Thursday to put pen to paper on a five-year deal with the Spanish champions.

Newcastle are set to net the best part of £70 million for Gordon after the Spanish side elbowed Bayern Munich out of the way when it looked like he was heading to Bavaria.

It was also revealed when the transfer was agreed that there would be bonuses to add on that could take the total close to £80 million, which is the figure Newcastle originally had in mind for Gordon heading into the window.

Newcastle needs Barcelona to win trophies

The details of those clauses have now been reported, and it could turn Newcastle fans into Barca supporters too, as one of the clauses sees Newcastle receive money should Barca win a trophy.

According to SPORT, Newcastle will receive an additional €1m per season if Gordon plays over 60% of games, up to €5m, and another €5m depending on any titles Barca wins.

There is also a sell-on clause in the deal, which is great news for Newcastle should the 25-year-old shine at the Nou Camp and seal a big-money return to England (or elsewhere) in years to come.

It's all about the sell-on clause

We're not sure whether Gordon will play 60% of games for Barcelona, though. He's got some good players to compete with. It also makes it very easy for Hansi Flick to get him to play 59% or something close and then just not play him anymore.

The sell-on clause is the big one, though, so if things don't work out for Gordon at Barcelona and they sell him, we don't miss out. We messed up by not putting a sell-on clause in Elliot Anderson's move to Nottingham Forest, and now he's being touted as a £100 million player, and Newcastle won't see a penny of it should that happen.

Everton put a 15% sell-on clause when they sold Gordon to Newcastle, so they're going to receive a decent chunk of money from this transfer, so it makes sense we'd put one in our deal too to recoup the money we lose from this deal.
