Ibrahima Konate is set to leave Liverpool as a free agent this summer after failing to agree a new deal.
Konate had told reporters that he was close to agreeing on a new contract last month, but negotiations have now stopped.
It is said that there is a gap between his position and Liverpool’s, ‘in terms of value and wages‘, leading to a breakdown in negotiations.
Konate is the third player who will leave Liverpool this summer as a free agent, alongside Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson.
He made 183 appearances across all competitions for the Reds, weighing in with seven goals and four assists.
European heavyweights battling for Konate
Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are all interested in Konate, according to L’Equipe.
Chelsea are looking to sign a centre-back with uncertainty surrounding Wesley Fofana’s future. There are concerns that he will not be a good fit under their new manager Xabi Alonso.
However, the Daily Mail claims that Chelsea have played down their interest in Konate.
Meanwhile, Bayern’s interest in the France international could be driven by Kim Min-Jae’s possible exit.
Madrid are also targeting Konate as a potential replacement for David Alaba. They have been long-term admirers of the Frenchman.
PSG are also said to be interested in Konate in an attempt to add more depth to their central defence.
With several clubs queuing for his signature, the 27-year-old could eventually get the pay rise Liverpool were reluctant to offer him.
