Andy Robertson: It’s important for Liverpool to “draw a line under me”

Andy Robertson has emphasised the importance of Liverpool drawing a line under his time at the club as he gets set to embark on a new chapter.

Despite Robertson showing he still has the qualities that would serve Liverpool well, no new contract was forthcoming and he bid a teary farewell after nine seasons.

He has reached a verbal agreement to join Tottenham as a free agent, with BBC Sport reporting only the finer details are left to iron out before a transfer is official.

It means a return to Anfield will be on the cards, and when asked about the emotion of that during an interview on talkSPORT, Robertson acknowledged the need for both sides to look to the future.

“My future will kind of take care of itself,” he started.

“I think obviously this week has been an emotional week, but it’s important that now I kind of draw a line under Liverpool, and probably more importantly, Liverpool draw a line under me.

“I won’t be getting posted on their Instagram anywhere near as much as I have been this week, that’s for sure!”

While an important point to recognise, with Liverpool needing to move forward with Milos Kerkez, Robertson’s absence will be felt ahead of another summer of significant change.

Andy Robertson stays quiet on next club

Robertson did not hint at his next destination, despite the reports, but did pledge his 100 percent commitment once his focus on the World Cup shifts.

He said: “I know that I’ve got a massive summer coming up, I’ve got a massive World Cup coming up, and that’s my full focus, on Scotland, and my future will take care of itself.

“I don’t go into anything half-hearted, I go into everything with the absolute 100 percent and that’s not going to change.

“Wherever that will be, will be sorted, and I look forward to just what’s ahead of me in the next four weeks because representing your country at a World Cup is going to take enough emotion and enough feelings, and everything that goes along with it.

“I think I need to focus on that, and then I’ll definitely need a break. I’ll definitely need a holiday to switch off, and some family time.

“And then whatever’s next, I’ll go into with absolute 100 percent and try and be as successful as I can be.”

Tottenham will be getting a proven winner and a vocal leader in Robertson, qualities Liverpool will miss having also lost Mo Salah and soon Ibrahima Konate after a new contract failed to be agreed.
