Seven more players from Liverpool’s 2024/25 Premier League-winning squad could follow Ibrahima Konate out the door ahead of a busy offseason.

It was confirmed on Friday that Konate, 27, a Premier League, FA Cup, and two-time EFL Cup-winning center back, will depart Anfield on a free transfer after five seasons in Merseyside. Konate’s departure is the latest of several high-profile exits, with Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson already confirmed to be departing long before last season’s close.

The Reds and Konate remained in negotiations up until this point. However, an agreement could not be reached. The Frenchman’s exit leaves six players from the 2024/25 Premier League squad remaining, while a further seven face uncertain futures.

According to This Is Anfield, Alisson, Joe Gomez, Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Wataru Endo, and Federico Chiesa could all leave Anfield this summer, while Virgil van Dijk, Conor Bradley, Kostas Tsimikas, Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Cody Gakpo are all set to remain.

Konate’s exit comes following the Merseyside derby win over Everton in April. He told reporters he was close to an agreement, and insisted that he had always wanted to stay at Liverpool.

"I think everyone wished for that for as long as possible, but we are in a good way,” Konate said at the time. “For sure, there is a big chance I’m here next season. This is what I always wanted.

“I’m waiting to sort the contract, but when everything is sorted, you will have to ask Richard (Hughes) what I said to him in September, November and he’s going to say something to make everyone quiet.”

Liverpool manager Arne Slot also addressed Konate’s future ahead of the Aston Villa game earlier this month. "If there is a resolution, then we will tell the world," Slot said.

"But at this moment of time it's not yet, so at the moment it is, we will share this information. But indeed, as you say, you knew what the answer was going to be."

Liverpool had been in negotiations with Konate since November 2023. However, according to Give Me Sport, Liverpool decided a bumper, big-money contract for Konate would be an “expensive renewal.”

Liverpool is set for a big summer transfer window amid the departures en masse. Slot has been handed the opportunity to right the wrongs of last season after a lackluster Premier League title defense.

The Reds finished fifth in the league behind Aston Villa, Manchester United, Man City, and title winners Arsenal. Slot believes he can turn things around at Anfield.

Salah’s downturn in form was one of the factors that hampered Liverpool. “One of the reasons why everyone is talking about wingers is because Mo is leaving,” Slot said.

“It makes complete sense to think about at least one. I think last season gives you the answer because of how important our wingers were to our success last season. They were scoring goals, providing goals, so they were a vital part of us winning the league last season and, in general in football, you see more and more focus on wingers."
