Arsenal struck by double transfer setback hours before Champions League final

Arsenal are not currently turning their attention to the summer transfer window, with a Champions League final against PSG in Budapest firmly at the top of their agenda. However, once matters are settled in Hungary and their players depart for the World Cup in North America, focus will inevitably shift towards bolstering the squad.

Significant developments regarding several of their targets have already taken shape in recent days. The first is that Julian Alvarez, the Atletico Madrid striker that Andrea Berta is eager to bring in, is edging ever closer to Barcelona. According to football.london, it is indeed the case that Alvarez has his heart set on a move to the Nou Camp, despite considerable interest from both the Gunners and PSG.

Beyond that, Bournemouth's Eli Junior Kroupi is a player who has caught Arsenal's eye. Most top Premier League clubs have cast admiring glances at Kroupi, who netted 13 top-flight goals during his debut season with the Cherries.

However, Bournemouth sources confirmed on Thursday that they have no intention of selling him this summer as they prepare for their first-ever European campaign.

The south-coast club are under no pressure to cash in and are determined to continue building around Kroupi, Rayan and Alex Scott, who has just been offered a new deal.

Manchester City are amongst several clubs who have shown an interest in Kroupi, but it would require an enormous fee to tempt him away from the Vitality Stadium.

As a result, Arsenal may need to look elsewhere, though securing a new striker remains far from an urgent priority.

A left-winger is also high on the agenda, with PSG trickster Bradley Barcola thought to be an admired target.

The Gunners are equally keen to bolster their midfield options, while a move in the right-back position is also a possibility.

Arsenal co-chair Josh Kroenke told NBC Sports when asked about summer plans: "The business never stops. So, right now there are other teams that are already trying to strengthen to come at us for next season. So we need to be aware of that.

"We've already had a few conversations about different areas that we think we can improve, both on and off the pitch. We are looking forward to getting that going this summer.

"It is going to be an interesting one because of the World Cup, but fortunately everybody is coming to the United States, so I don't have to travel for once."
