Andree Jeglertz urges Manchester City to finish triumphant season on a high

Manchester City boss Andree Jeglertz urged his side to “finish on the highest level” as they aim for FA Cup glory.

City will be looking to complete an impressive season in style at Wembley, where they face Brighton in the competition’s final.

Sunday’s showpiece comes after City claimed their first Women’s Super League title since 2016 at the start of May and secured qualification for next year’s Champions League.

Looking ahead to the game, Jeglertz said: “Really excited.

“The last weeks have been amazing in a lot of celebrations, but at the same time, I think we have done a good week this week, preparation for this game.

“We want to finish on the highest level we can. It’s a great opportunity to the whole season having one of the biggest games as the last one.”

Jeglertz also praised Khadija Shaw’s influence after the striker signed a new four-year contract earlier in the week.

“Bunny has, for this club, shown what a fantastic football player she is,” he added.

“I’ve been working with her for one year, she’s both a great person and a great football player.

“She has been a big part of the team’s success this year, so of course from that point of view it’s a great statement from the club.

“And also for her, that she shows that this is where she wants to be, this is where she wants to help the team to take the next step.”

Brighton boss Dario Vidosic will be thinking of his late father when he leads his team out for their first Women’s FA Cup final.

Rado Vidosic died aged 64 earlier this year and was women’s and girls’ head of coaching at Brighton.

Asked if he will be thinking about his father, Vidosic said: “I think without a doubt. I always think about that every day, and those quiet moments, and sometimes those crazier moments where it just sort of sometimes will hit you.

“Sometimes it’s good memories, sometimes it’s the not so good memories of not that long ago, but you know, I try to carry everything he’s taught me in life and how he worked.

“I’m the person I am today because of my father and my mother, but especially with dad in a football sense.

“I wanted to be like him when he was a player and I was playing on the backfields as a junior, running around, following him everywhere.

“And it was a similar thing when he was a coach – I was wanting to follow in those footsteps as well.

“So I know he’ll be there. I know he’ll be watching. He won’t miss that game. Hopefully we can make him proud again from above.”
