It is no secret that Chelsea will be looking to add some experience and proven quality to their squad this summer. For the past four seasons, the club have overlooked those traits. Instead, they focused on getting the best youngsters from around the globe. Close to two billion pounds were spent doing that. And yet, the results on the pitch have been nowhere near the mark.
Chelsea finished 10th in the Premier League this season and without a trophy. Nine teams from England will be playing in Europe in the next campaign. The Blues won’t be one of them.
That is unacceptable to the fans, and should be for the club as well. Now, it remains to be seen how they go about fixing things. Xabi Alonso has a lot of work to do.
One of the players Chelsea have been linked with in recent times is Bernardo Silva, who is going to be a free agent after leaving Man City. But unfortunately, it looks like he won’t be ending up at Stamford Bridge if Fabrizio Romano’s update is anything to go by.
Fabrizio Romano confirms bad news for Chelsea in Bernardo Silva race
According to the Italian journalist, Silva is set to play in Spain from next season with bids from Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. Both clubs have approached his camp to make proposals. Nothing is done yet.
Interestingly, those are the same two teams that are believed to be in the race to sign Marc Cucurella as well.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Silva. But it does not look like he will end up joining Chelsea, or even stay in England.
To be fair, that is an understandable decision. He has a legacy at Manchester City. Joining a direct rival would have an effect on it, whether you like it or not.
Silva could have been an excellent signing for Chelsea
Silva is still in his early 30s. So, he should have a lot of football left in the tank and was still a starter for Man City.
In fact, it is a bit surprising that he is leaving the club at this point in his career. One would imagine that he has a fair few years of top football left in him.
For Chelsea, he could have been an excellent signing. But it is quite clear that that is not going to work out. Now, let’s see how they go about adding experience.re
