Marcel Desailly tells Chelsea to bring former flop back to Stamford Bridge

Chelsea legend Marcel Desailly has urged incoming manager Xabi Alonso to pull off the ultimate summer shock by luring outgoing Liverpool icon Mohamed Salah back to Stamford Bridge.

When a young, raw Mohamed Salah arrived at Stamford Bridge from Basel in 2014, few could have predicted the historic trajectory his career would take. Salah’s brief spell in West London was largely spent on the periphery, as he struggled to convince Jose Mourinho that he deserved a regular spot.

After registering just 19 appearances and a couple of goals, the winger was quietly shipped off to Italy, labeled by many as a Premier League mismatch.

What followed his permanent exit from Chelsea was the unexpected. Upon returning to England with Liverpool, Salah brought the Premier League and Champions League trophies back to Anfield, smashing goalscoring records along the way.

Now, as he finally prepares to leave Merseyside, he does so as a legend with 257 goals to his name.

Marcel Desailly wants Mohamed Salah back at Chelsea

Marcel Desailly told FootballTransfers when asked who new manager Xabi Alonso should sign during his first transfer window as Chelsea boss.

“Mohamed Salah. You know, he’s been there before and it didn’t work out.

“Maybe Salah wants a London club for his family, for a better quality of life. It’s not that Liverpool is unlivable, but London might be much better for them.

“I would say he is one of those experienced players who can bring that special element into the system.”

Mohamed Salah just doesn’t make sense at Chelsea

Despite Marcel Desailly’s romantic vision, pursuing Mohamed Salah makes very little sense for Chelsea’s long-term blueprint.

The club has spent the last two years aggressively moving away from aging superstars with astronomical salary expectations. At nearly 34 years old, Salah’s colossal wage demands would instantly shatter Chelsea’s attempts for a new strict, balanced wage structure.

Furthermore, his addition would completely obstruct the pathway and development of highly-rated young wingers like Jamie Gittens, Pedro Neto and Estevao Willian already in the squad.
