Barcelona have officially completed the signing of Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon for a transfer fee of €80 million.

The England international scored 17 goals and provided five assists in 46 games during the 2025-26 season and he quickly emerged as a top target for Hansi Flick’s side ahead of this summer, with the Blaugrana boss believed to be a driving force behind the transfer.

Gordon was courted by both Arsenal and Bayern Munich, but Barcelona have won the race for his signature, with the winger signing a five-year contract at Camp Nou to keep him at the club until 2031.

The 25-year-old, who progressed through the Everton academy before joining Newcastle in 2023, is expected to compete with Raphinha for a starting berth at Barcelona next season, while he may also be an option for Flick as a centre forward following the exit of Robert Lewandowski upon the expiration of his contract.

Gordon helped Newcastle win their first domestic trophy in 70 years during his time at St James’ Park - in the form of the 2025 Carabao Cup - and he has become just the third English player to join Barcelona since the 1920s, after Gary Lineker and Marcus Rashford.

Barcelona set for summer spending spree

Gordon’s arrival at Camp Nou is likely to be a problem for England team-mate Rashford, who spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Barcelona from Manchester United.

The 28-year-old is desperate to sign a permanent contract with the Spanish giants, however they are reluctant to trigger their €30m option-to-buy clause, and the signing of Gordon could end his chances of returning to Catalunya this summer.

Meanwhile, after announcing the arrival of Gordon on a permanent deal, Barcelona are now expected to intensify their pursuit of Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, who has already communicated his desire to leave the Metropolitano this summer" href="https://www.footballtransfers.com/en/transfer-news/uk-premier-league/2026/05/fc-barcelona-fabrizio-romano-julian-alvarez-atletico-madrid" target="_blank">who has already communicated his desire to leave the Metropolitano this summer.

The Argentina international has been earmarked as Barca’s preferred centre forward target and they are eager to finalise a deal before the upcoming World Cup as they look to win the Champions League for the first time since 2015 next season.

Barcelona are also in the market for a new left-footed defender, although they have been informed that Inter Milan star Alessandro Bastoni is not for sale this summer.
