Arne Slot is reportedly urging Liverpool to step up their interest in signing Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven this summer, according to reports.
Liverpool endured a disappointing 2025/26 campaign, finishing fifth in the Premier League with 13 defeats and over 50 goals conceded. It marked a sharp drop-off just a season after lifting the league title, highlighting the need for defensive reinforcements ahead of next year.
Meanwhile, Tottenham narrowly avoided relegation on the final day of the season but have already begun reshaping their squad with early transfer activity. Despite that, uncertainty remains over whether they can hold onto some of their key players.
According to Sports Boom, Liverpool are looking to take advantage of Spurs’ disappointing season to make a pitch to van de Ven.

Liverpool eyeing Van de Ven move
Van de Ven, who has previously been described as “world-class”, is now being linked with a possible departure from north London following Tottenham’s underwhelming season.
The Dutch international is believed to be open to a move, with suggestions he would favour a switch to Liverpool over other potential destinations if an opportunity arises.
Slot is said to be particularly keen to strengthen his defensive options, with uncertainty surrounding Ibrahima Konaté and the long-term squad balance at centre-back. A pre-agreed deal for Jeremy Jacquet is already in place, but Liverpool are still exploring further additions.
With Virgil van Dijk approaching 35 before the new season and Joe Gomez also facing ongoing fitness concerns and potential interest elsewhere, Liverpool’s need for depth in central defence has become more pressing.

Spurs stance and valuation
Van de Ven is not expected to actively push for a move at this stage, but Tottenham are aware of growing interest and would demand a significant fee to consider selling one of their key defenders.
Although he has generally been settled at the club, the report suggests some players may evaluate their futures depending on Tottenham’s ability to return to European competition.
Manager Roberto De Zerbi is said to want to keep the defender, but may face pressure if players decide they want a fresh challenge elsewhere.
From Liverpool’s perspective, van de Ven would represent a major statement signing.
