Liverpool want “to close” a deal for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande before the World Cup, according to reports in the German media.

Sky Sport Deutschland claim the Ivorian international is also being pursued by Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.

However, the Reds are hoping to beat the competition to Diomande’s signature by getting an agreement in place within the next couple of weeks.

The opening game of the World Cup is on June 11th, so sporting director Richard Hughes has his work cut out to secure a move before then.

2 clubs have already backed out of the race for Diomande

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has recently confirmed that Manchester United and Tottenham won’t get involved in a bidding war with Liverpool.

PSG’s interest in Diomande is well known, but Manchester City’s involvement is a fresh development.

Considering how much the 19-year-old is expected to cost, it would be a surprise if Liverpool’s Premier League rivals become serious challengers.

Leipzig are demanding €100m (£87m) for Diomande, and with City also hoping to recruit Elliot Anderson for a similar figure, you can’t see them signing both.

Liverpool could offer a player to Leipzig

Sky Germany report that Diomande’s club are reluctant to let him leave, and they would rather tie him down to a new contract.

It means there is next to no chance of the Reds driving down the price. For that reason, Hughes may resort to a part-exchange offer.

Leipzig were keen on recruiting Harvey Elliott last year, but they were only willing to pay around €20m (£17m) for the 23-year-old at the time.

There could be a chance to reduce the cost of purchasing Diomande by including Elliott in the deal, but the Liverpool midfielder would still need to agree to the move.
