Liverpool could have only seven title-winners left in squad next season

Liverpool could start next season with only seven members of their 2024/25 title-winning squad, with doubts over more than six players.

With the news that contract talks with Ibrahima Konate have collapsed and that he will leave as a free agent, Liverpool will bid farewell to another title-winner.

Mo Salah and Andy Robertson have already left the club, with the former asking to be released a year early from his contract to leave a big hole to fill.

The trio combined for 1,003 club appearances and served as key pillars in the dressing room, with their leadership and presence to be sorely missed.

Alisson was speculated to join the exodus, with Juventus pushing to complete a £13 million deal, but the latest reports state he is likely to stay, with the club not prepared to sanction an exit.

If the Brazilian sees out the final year of his contract, as it stands, Liverpool could have only seven title-winning players left in their squad for 2026/27.

It all comes when the pressure is already piling on Arne Slot to oversee a bounce-back after a hugely disappointing season.

Liverpool players ‘expected’ to stay for 2026/27

If we take into account the latest reports on Alisson‘s future, there are only seven players from the 2024/25 side who you would expect to see next season:

Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Conor Bradley, Kostas Tsimikas, Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo.

And if Liverpool were to pursue an alternative at left-back, even Tsimikas’ place cannot be guaranteed.

The remaining title-winners all have doubts over their futures, and include:

Joe Gomez, Wataru Endo, Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, and Federico Chiesa.

Gomez, however, may be retained in light of Konate’s exit and the fact that he also offers cover at right-back.

Liverpool title-winners no longer at the club

Konate will now join a long list of players who are no longer at the club following the 20th league title, which includes:

Caoimhin Kelleher, Andy Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jarell Quansah, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Mo Salah, and sadly Diogo Jota.

Liverpool squad depth as it stands

If you take into consideration that Bradley and Hugo Ekitike have both sustained serious injuries, and Giovanni Leoni will be marking his comeback from an ACL, Liverpool’s squad looks very thin.

Liverpool are widely known to be pursuing wingers this summer, but they also need to add to their ranks in central midfield, at centre-back, right-back and potentially in goal.

Slot stressed this summer would not play out similarly to last year, when the cash was splashed, but there are a lot of gaps to fill, and that necessitates Liverpool getting out the cheque book.
