Arsenal keen on Serie A player ideal for Arteta–Agent ties can make€40m signing easier

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi on his agenda for the summer.

In February, Sport Witness covered claims from Italy that Arsenal followed the 25-year-old.

The stopper graduated from the Serie A side’s academy and has been their No.1 since the 2023/24 season.

He let 135 goals and has 45 clean sheets from 126 matches for La Dea. This season, he kept 17 clean sheets and conceded 57 goals from 50 matches.

The stopper’s performances would have convinced the Premier League side to include him in their shortlist.

Why Arsenal are keen

Tutto Atalanta report Marco Carnesecchi is vocal and has the ability to build up the play from back. These are some of the qualities that make him an ‘ideal fit’ for Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal scouts have closely followed the Italian for over a year and a half and they are keen on securing his services this summer.

The Gunners maintain a good relationship with his agent, Alessandro Lucci, whose client list also includes Arsenal’s Riccardo Calafiori. The representative brokered the left-back’s move from Bologna to the Emirates in 2024.

Lucci understands ‘Arteta’s needs perfectly’ and he has Arsenal’s trust due to the Calafiori deal.

The English champions have to step up their efforts and La Dea opening the door for the move to go through. Atalanta have set a €40m price for the Italian and are refusing to offer any discount.

Arsenal are interested in Carnesecchi and the player, his agent and Atalanta are all aware of this.

It’s unclear whether the north London club are willing to meet the price. Their close ties with the agent can make the potential deal easier this summer.

Our take: Backup role at Arsenal

David Raya has been the No.1 at the Emirates in recent years. He will start for Arsenal in the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain later today.

Kepa Arrizabalaga has been the Spaniard’s backup. If Marco Carnesecchi were to arrive in London, he has to compete with the former Chelsea man for the No.2 spot.

Transfermarkt value the Atalanta player, with a contract until 2028, at €30m.
