Curtis Jones: Inter’s starting price half of Liverpool’s valuation – talks continue

Negotiations between Liverpool and Inter Milan are ongoing, but the Italian side are not close to meeting the midfielder’s valuation.

Jones was recently claimed to be “prioritising” a move to Inter this summer, only a few months after a switch was mooted in the January window.

The Scouser is heading into the final year of his contract, and reports this week claimed that Richard Hughes met with Inter’s counterpart, Piero Ausili, to start talks.

The latest, per transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano on X, is that negotiations “are continuing” for a player who is described as being at the “top of their list.”

Crucially, while the “deal is on,” an “agreement is not close yet” due to the gap in Liverpool’s price tag and the fee Inter want to pay.

The Serie A side’s starting point is €20 million (£17.3m), which is less than half of what the Reds would be seeking for the 25-year-old.

According to the *Times*‘ Paul Joyce, Liverpool are looking for around £35 million for the Scouser, who has made 228 appearances since his debut in 2019.

There remains the possibility that Liverpool would seek to act on their interest in Inter right-back Denzel Dumfries, who was a mooted option for the Reds in January, to help broker a deal.

The Dutch defender is available for €25 million (£21.7m) due to a release clause in his contract, though at 30, he does not fit the mould of a typical Liverpool signing.

Curtis Jones was “excited for next season”

Losing Jones would serve as a notable blow for Liverpool, with the boyhood Red a valuable homegrown player in the prime years of his career.

All signs point to an exit being facilitated by the club, as long as their valuation is met, but Jones did not allude to that eventuality when he spoke to club media on the final day of the season.

Jones told All Red Video: “I’m excited [for] next season, it should be great. We can put everything behind us and just go and enjoy it. Go and play free.

“The important thing, as I said, is that this club is huge on sticking as one, and our family, and the fans are always there,” Jones said.

“It’s important that we got in the Champions League, and so next year, it’ll be exciting again.

“The lads that we bought have now played enough games that they will feel that they’re part of this as well, so you’ll see the best of them as well.”
