Anthony Gordon completed his move to Barcelona on Friday, with the Catalan club making the deal official.

After reports broke on Wednesday, apparently out of the blue, that Barca were working ‘at lightning speed’ on a move to sign the Newcastle winger from under the noses of Bayern Munich and Arsenal, the deal did indeed pick up pace until it reached its breathtaking conclusion.

Barcelona will pay around €80 million to sign the England winger, who has joined the Camp Nou side on a five-year contract, but it is a deal that will leave its mark on European football as it threatens to kick off a stunning transfer domino.

Romano on the effect of Anthony Gordon deal

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has this week explained why Gordon’s move will affect the plans of Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham, Liverpool and PSG.

“There will be a wingers domino, because we said that it's going to be an important summer for midfielders and for wingers,” Romano explained on his YouTube channel.

“And now for wingers, obviously, with Anthony Gordon going to Barcelona, it means that there will be movements from other clubs on different players.

“Bayern are in the market for a winger. Let's see what they do. Keep an eye on Manchester City because if Savinho goes to Tottenham, Manchester City could go for a new winger.

“My understanding is that Manchester City are exploring the possibility of going for a new winger. Then there is Liverpool. Liverpool want to go for Yan Diomande, but they are in a battle with Paris Saint-Germain.

“And now I can't exclude that more clubs join this race for Diomande, also because the interest of these clubs is really concrete.

“But don't forget that Leipzig still want to offer him a new contract, include the release clause, and eventually sell him in 2027.

“It's going to be a very open race around Europe for wingers. And don't forget also Arsenal. So imagine Bayern, City, Arsenal, Liverpool, at least these clubs in the mix for wingers, and then Tottenham with Savinho.”

Marcus Rashford also on the market

Romano’s analysis also missed the impact that Gordon’s switch will likely have on the future of another high-profile winger in the form of Marcus Rashford.

It looks increasingly difficult for the England star to remain at Camp Nou, particularly as they go chasing other targets such as Julian Alvarez and Bernardo Silva, which would knock him further down the pecking order.

Rashford will, therefore, return to Manchester United, but the indications are that he will also be seeking a swift exit from Old Trafford, putting another interesting wing option on the market. Tottenham and Aston Villa have both been rumoured to hold an interest in him.

Gordon’s move has acted as a catalyst for a busy summer, with Barcelona making an impressively swift start in the transfer market to complete one of the biggest and most important deals of the summer.
