Chelsea want to sign a player they think should be in Thomas Tuchel’s England World Cup squad

A surprising amount of Chelsea players will not be representing England at the World Cup this summer, and the Blues now want to sign another who Thomas Tuchel left out.

Blues captain Reece James is the only one named in the 26-man squad, with Cole Palmer the shock name left out to many supporters.

There was also no place for Levi Colwill despite impressing since returning from injury, with Trevoh Chalobah also left out.

Chelsea think transfer target Alex Scott should be at the World Cup

Tuchel has looked to reward form rather than status when naming his squad, which has left questions as to why Bournemouth’s Alex Scott has not made the cut.

It seems Chelsea are surprised by this too. According to Simon Phillips, the Blues think the midfielder can count himself unfortunate to not be in the squad, and are very big fans of him.

He said on his Substack: “I just wanted to reiterate that two names for the midfield that I keep hearing about is Alex Scott of Bournemouth, and Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace. Chelsea have a big admiration for both players and whenever I ask about targets for this summer, these are two of the names that come up a lot.

“It does not mean these are the only midfield names we like or are tracking, there will be more. But these two are always very prominent.

“Chelsea believe Scott in particular is under rated by some and is actually unfortunate not to considered as a England international yet. They believe he will be very soon. Our sources have also raved about how good Scott is.”

Bournemouth desperate to keep Scott

After their brilliant campaign saw them secure a sixth-placed finish, Bournemouth are desperate to not lose the majority of their players this summer.

Marcos Senesi is already set to join Tottenham, but Scott is one player they are determined to not let go.

The Cherries have offered Scott a new contract to try and keep hold of him, and have European football to offer him going into next season.

Chelsea are looking for a new midfielder with the prospect of Enzo Fernandez leaving the club this summer, with Real Madrid pushing hard for his signature.
