**Liverpool and Arne Slot are set to part ways with immediate effect, according to a monumental update from journalist Fabrizio Romano.**
The Dutchman has been in charge of the Reds since the summer of 2024, winning the Premier League title last season.
But the 2025/26 campaign proved to be a disaster for Liverpool, with a fifth-place finish not good enough, and it looks to have been costly for Slot.
Writing on [_X_](https://x.com/FabrizioRomano/status/2060679926349529561?s=20) on Saturday morning, Romano claimed that the Reds and Slot’s relationship is over, with confirmation reportedly close:
_“EXCLUSIVE: ARNE SLOT AND LIVERPOOL TO PART WAYS WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT. It’s over between the Dutch manager and Liverpool after end of the season review. Andoni Iraola, clear favorite to take over as next LFC head coach.”_
**Liverpool have made the right decision with Arne Slot**
---------------------------------------------------------
It is sad to see things end this way for Slot, with the 47-year-old a man of integrity who has always carried himself with class as Liverpool’s head coach.
Relieving him of his duties feels like the right outcome for all parties, though, following a woeful campaign where so much has gone wrong.
Tactically, Slot has shown his limitations and lack of experience, not getting the best out of new signings such as Florian Wirtz, and he has fallen out with Mohamed Salah, who hinted that standards have dropped around him [earlier this month](https://live4liverpool.com/we-were-told-massive-new-claim-emerges-over-explosive-mo-salah-statement/), saying:
_“I have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions. It took hard work and I always did everything I could to help the club get there. Nothing makes me prouder than that. Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve._“
Slot will hopefully have a great career elsewhere, but it’s now time for Liverpool to find a perfect successor, with Andoni Iraola surely standing out as a leading option.
The Spaniard has left Bournemouth, having guided them into Europe this season, and he plays an exciting brand of attacking football, and could be the man to get the best out of this talented Reds squad.
