**Liverpool have sacked manager Arne Slot after two seasons in charge, with Andoni Iraola leading the list of contenders to be his replacement.**
Slot won the Premier League in his first season, a hugely impressive feat given he was taking over from legendary figure Jurgen Klopp, but this season has been disastrous.
[The Reds](https://hayters.com/liverpool-centre-back-set-to-leave-liverpool-on-free-transfer/) spent £450 million on players in the summer but finished fifth in their title defence, and lost 12 games. Leeds United only lost one more.
[Liverpool](https://hayters.com/salah-says-he-wants-liverpool-to-go-back-to-being-the-heavy-metal-attacking-team-that-opponents-fear/)‘s owners Fenway Sports Group have said in a statement: “That this was a difficult decision for us to make as a club goes without saying. The contribution Arne has made to Liverpool FC in the time that he has been with us has been significant, meaningful and – most importantly of all to supporters and ourselves – successful.
“As such, our appreciation for everything he has achieved could not be greater, particularly as it was underpinned by a work ethic, a diligence and a level of expertise which further underlined our view that he is a leader in his field.
“From the moment that we first encountered Arne, it was immediately clear that he is an individual who does not merely accept responsibility, he embraces it.”
