Liverpool FC has officially announced the departure of manager Arne Slot, effective immediately, confirming that the process of selecting his successor has already begun.
Slot's departure from Liverpool comes after a disastrous season for the Reds, who finished without a trophy and in fifth place in the Premier League.
In a joint statement, Liverpool's owners expressed their deep appreciation for Arne's achievements and leadership over the past two years. The statement read, "Without a doubt, this was an extremely difficult decision. Arne's contribution to Liverpool during his time with us has been significant and impactful, and most importantly, for us and the fans, it has been a successful journey."
"Our appreciation for everything he has achieved is boundless, especially as these accomplishments were based on a high work ethic, dedication, and extensive technical expertise, which reinforced our view of him as a leading figure in his field," the statement added.
"From our first meeting with Slot, we knew he was someone who doesn't just accept responsibility but embraces it and strives to elevate it, so this was clearly demonstrated from the moment he accepted the managerial reins and led us to the Premier League title, and throughout the past season, he faced significant challenges and burdens with courage and competence," he concluded.
Liverpool signed Slot as their new manager in the summer of 2024, succeeding Jürgen Klopp, after he had led Feyenoord to the Dutch league title.
Slot enjoyed success in his first season with Liverpool, guiding the team to the Premier League title. However, results deteriorated significantly in the recently concluded season, bringing an end to the Dutchman's tenure with the Reds.
