The early frontrunners in the betting odds for the Liverpool job following the dismissal of Arne Slot
Dismissal decision: Liverpool have severed ties with Arne Slot after a disappointing 2025/26 campaign that saw the club finish in fifth position. While the Reds secured Champions League qualification, a season without silverware, coupled with a growing sense that the team's identity had become stale, prompted the club's hierarchy to act.
Slot's record: Slot departs Merseyside with a deeply divided legacy, having steered Liverpool to a record-equalling 20th English top-flight crown during his 2024/25 debut campaign after replacing Jurgen Klopp. Yet his second year fell apart owing to a crippling injury crisis, a failure to bed in summer recruits and a breakdown in relations with departing legend Mohamed Salah.
Club's statement: The Reds confirmed that "the process to appoint a successor is underway." While the decision was reportedly taken with considerable reluctance, the leadership conveyed their gratitude by saying: "He leaves with a Premier League title to his name and our deepest gratitude and appreciation."
Andoni Iraola (8/11 favourite): The ex-Bournemouth manager has emerged as the clear odds-on favourite for the vacancy after confirming his exit from the Cherries. Iraola, who steered Bournemouth to an historic sixth-place finish, enjoys a strong rapport with Reds sporting director Richard Hughes.
Sebastian Hoeness (5/1): The Stuttgart boss is currently second in the betting after masterminding an impressive overhaul in the Bundesliga. His reputation as a modern, proactive German coach who thrives on player development suits the FSG blueprint. However, prising him away from a deal running until 2028 could prove tricky.
Oliver Glasner (6/1): The now ex-Crystal Palace manager has entered the frame following a remarkable stint in south London. His tactical adaptability and proven credentials in European football make him a compelling, Premier League-tested candidate.
Julian Nagelsmann (13/2): The Germany head coach is a tantalising, top-drawer option for the Reds as they seek a world-class successor. Nagelsmann brings vast high-level experience from his time at Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig, offering the kind of structural authority Liverpool appear to have been missing.
Luis Enrique (8/1): The PSG chief is another prominent name doing the rounds amongst bookmakers. His possession-driven philosophy and extensive history of handling superstar personalities could provide the firm, commanding presence required to steer the squad into its next chapter.
Jurgen Klopp (9/1): The former Reds manager is at short odds for a sentimental return to the Anfield dugout. While highly improbable given his exit two years ago, bookmakers are unwilling to dismiss the possibility of a fairytale comeback to restore the identity he originally created.
