Liverpool’s Dutch coaching staff depart alongside Arne Slot

Liverpool have reportedly sanctioned further departures of Arne Slot‘s coaching staff, in the aftermath of the Dutch boss being given his marching orders at Anfield.

Slot was dismissed from his position on Saturday morning following an end-of-season review by club executives, bringing to an end his tenure at the club two seasons into a three year contract.

Now, as is usually expected in instances when a manager departs, the coaching staff are set to follow through the exit door.

Dutch journalist Joost Blaauwhof reports Slot’s assistants, including Sipke Hulshoff and Giovanni van Bronkhorst have been informed that they will be relieved of their duties.

Fitness coach Ruben Peeters, who followed Slot to Liverpool from Feyenoord and was widely credited with preserving a strong history of injury-free squads, is also reported to be leaving with immediate effect.

Hulshoff had been a long-time colleague of Slot, also joining from Feyenoord after a 10-year period alongside the now former Liverpool manager.

Van Bronkhorst joined the club more recently than the rest of the coaching staff, arriving following the title victory to fill a void left behind by John Heitinga, who left Merseyside for a short stint of managing the Ajax senior team at the beginning of the season.

It has been a dramatic day of mass change in L4, with plans now firmly in place for a successor to Slot to be arranged in due course. Reports are mounting regarding an imminent recruitment of former Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola, who has moved into the position as firm favourite to succeed the role.

The 42-year-old would then be permitted to bring his own backroom staff to Liverpool with him, before laying down plans for pre-season with his new club.

The shocking news of Slot’s exit comes against a backdrop of what appeared to be growing certainly that he would remain in charge for next season, in order to right the wrongs of the recent campaign.

Liverpool limped to a fifth place finish on the final day of the season, securing Champions League football but doing so in the most unconvincing style.

Slot remained in the dugout during the lap of honour following the final fixture of the season, a 1-1 draw with Brentford, as club legends Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson were given their last farewells by the Kop.

It would turn out to be an historic date which marked Slot’s last outing as a Liverpool employee, despite growing speculation that Etienne Reijnen was to be brought in as his assistant for the forthcoming campaign.

The Telegraph‘s Dominic King and The Guardian‘s Andy Hunter both stated that Liverpool were “close to” adding the Dutchman to Slot’s backroom staff, in what would have been a bulletproof show of support for the Dutchman.
